The documentary “Organismus Geyso20” celebrates its Brunswick premiere

More than 30,000 visitors were curious about the art and artists of the studio community Geyso20:  From january to april 2025, the Sprengel Museum Hanover presented current and historical works from the Geyso20 collection in “The studio as a community#Geyso20”. The show intented to give open studios, such as Geyso20, greater visibility. Equally, the documentary film “Organism Geyso20” offered a glimpse into an artistic space that follows its own rhythms. The filmmakers Stefan Stak and Pujan Shakupa wanted to capture the unique atmosphere of Geyso20. 

The responses on the premiere in Braunschweig's Red Hall were overwhelming: The audience applauded the filmmakers with standing ovations. Over 100 guests, including companions, sponsors, artists from the Geyso20 studio, old and new friends, celebrated a film that presents an intense 70-minute insight into the studio collective's own tonality. 

After the screening, PD Dr. Thomas Röske, co-initiator of the exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hanover, joined us via video call. "The film sensitively documents how very different people work and live together side by side, peacefully and intensively concentrated on their individual artistic projects. With no envy or competitive pressure, just with enthusiastic collaboration.This inspires our own creativity and could serve as a model for other group processes in our society," summarizes Thomas Röske, director of the Prinzhorn Collection at the Center for Psychosocial Medicine at the University Hopital Heidelberg. 

The film will soon be screened at the Idyllerei Festival, organized by the idyllerei Kunstraum, Lebenshilfe Nürnberg, from june 12 to 14, 2026.
