Studio history
Since 1992, Geyso20 has been contributing to realise the aspirations of people with disabilities. As a model project of the „Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe“, it was the first institution under this sponsorship in the field of visual arts in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Studio Geyso20 is a place of artistic production. In the studio, people with disabilities have the freedom and space to develop and to cultivate their individual artistic expression.
Essentially, the artistic expression of people with disabilities is often a process of self-assurance. The team of Geyso20 provides both the space and the reliable framework and structure for their artistic work.
After several changes of location, the studio has been located at Geysostraße 20 since 2011, where the Gallery Geyso20 opened its premises in 2012 alongside the studio. The Geyso20 collection is also located in the midst of the studio context.
In 2019, more than thirty artists are working in Atelier Geyso20, 8 of them full-time. The studio is open to the public and the diverse exchange with visitors, students at the HBK Braunschweig and friendly cultural institutions characterises everyday life at Geyso20.
You can find a detailed insight into the history of the studio and its development in the chronicle, which was published on the occasion of our 25th anniversary in 2017.
