Wonderful opening at the Sprengel Museum Hanover
Das Atelier als Gemeinschaft#Geyso20
Sprengel Museum Hanover, january 22 until april 6 2025
More than 300 guests celebrate an impressive opening of the exhibition "Das Atelier als Gemeinschaft#Geyso20" at the Sprengel Museum Hanover.
Since 1992, the Open Studio Geyso20 studio is a well-known place for alternative art production or Outsider Art. Together with the Sprengel Museum Hanover, we invite guests to get to know the Geyso20s´ organism even better.
The Open Studio Geyso20 works at the interface to the established art scene following its own rhythms:
Apart from avoidance rules and mostly without jealous demarcation from one another, the Open Studio Geyso20 is an enrichment for the contemporary art scene. With its exhibition series, the Sprengel Museum Hanover gives Open Studios a greater visibility. The curators, Nora Niefanger, Kristina Sinn and Dörte Wiegand, have developed both the selection of the works and the mediation programme in cooperation with the artists and the Geyso20 team. This is an important step for future cooperations between Open Studios and museums.
We would like to thank the entire team of the Sprengel Museum and our funding partners, the Braunschweigische Stiftung, Andreas Clare and the KORNER-Stiftung as well as aktion mensch. A big thank you to the Freundeskreis Geyso20, to beier baudesign, Brunswick and to Andreas Körner, Hanover.
A big thank you to Thomas Röske for his idea and initiative to understand and present Geyso20 like an organism. Thorsten Ruperti represented the artist community at the press conference and he performend on the opening night with a special typewriter performance. The exhibition shows works by all artists currently active in the studio, an early work of the first studio artist Winfried Kostka, as well as works from the studio collection. You can enjoy drawings, paintings, objects, collages and photographs.
To kick off the dialogue tours, Alexander Schwarz, University of Lausanne, and Volker Darnedde, artist of the Geyso20 studio, invite you to a tour on january 31, 3 p m.
A warm welcome!
