"Doppellinien"- Tandem-guided tours in Bärbel Lange's exhibition at Kunstverein Braunschweig
Kunstverein Braunschweig, march and april 2024
Johanna Kranz discussed, together with Bärbel Lange and a member of the mediation team of the Kunstverein Braunschweig, the artists´ work biography and different ways of working.
The international working artist Bärbel Lange, who has exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, currently shows her work at Kunstverein Braunschweig. Since 2014, Bärbel Lange works at Kunsthaus Kat 18, Cologne, where she has developed her first motif, a sun. Then, she started creating unique animals with a double outline. On the one hand, the "Doppellinie" marks the shape of the body, on the other hand the animals´ inner life, its soul. "Animals are our sources of strength", Bärbel Lange explains, and they should be protected.
Bärbel Lange works on different materials like paper, painter's fleece or carpets. Her playful drawings, and also her paintings on porcelain, connect her work to the philosophy of Johanna Kranz´ artistic work.
In 2023, Bärbel Langes´ "Tiertore", gates guiding the way to another, better world, have been added to the Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
The tandem-guided tours are the succesful continuous collaboration of Geyso20, together with the Kunstverein Braunschweig and the Kunsthaus KAT18, Cologne. Starting our co-work in 2015, the tours offer the chance of exchange, not only between artists working in different studios, but also between artists, students and the audience and their different perspectives on life and art.
